This was on the huge Samsung Galaxy Stage on the east end of the park near Lou Neff Point on the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail. Mark Foster came out clean shaven and wearing black leather pants, a print button-down shirt, and white shoes. He was also wearing sunglasses...well, until "Miss You" when they went flying across the stage during that manic ending to "Miss You" (Foster fans often refer to that moment as The Fostergasm). And speaking of attire, I do not understand Isom Innus wearing a leather jacket thru most of the first half of the set. What an amazing, fast-paced 60-minute performance.
They sang 12 songs. Here is the order; yes, I wrote them down as they performed:
Pseudologia Fantastica
Miss You
Life on the Nickel
Helena Beat
Houdini
Coming of Age
Best Friend
Are You What You Want To Be
Call It What You Want
Pumped Up Kicks
Don't Stop
The Truth
The place I was standing was awesome. I was on the front rail, stage right and directly behind the small fenced-off hearing-impaired section where there were about eight people. I was fortunate enough to get this spot because I walked thru the crowd about 15 minutes into Paolo Nutini's set one hour and forty-five minutes before Foster the People was to begin and found it very easy to get front rail position. After Paolo's set was finished and the crowd began to thin, the woman on my left scooted down the rail a bit and I realized she was there for the reason I was there: to see Foster the People. I chatted a bit with the people around me, we were all pretty crazy about Foster the People. Nothing breeds enthusiasm more than to be around people who share a common goal. The band came out about 3 minutes early and the performance was stunning. The night was beautiful and comfortable. Mark Foster was on mark (PUN!) with his message, his philosophies, his singing, his dancing, his instrumentality, and THAT SMILE. To sum it up, he and the band were everything. Earlier after the autograph tent, I had thought this was one of the best days of my life. I was wrong. Way wrong. This was the best day of my life.
The yellow circle? That is me!
